Top 5 Places to take your Dog in Los Angeles

1) Runyan canyon above Hollywood - Nice trail with great views, parking is frequently a problem -  best to go before 8:00 am week days.  The higher you climb the better your views of the surrounding neighborhood and downtown LA.   Runyan is very popular so expect to encounter many other hikers. Not a real long trail, about 2 miles, but it is very steep so it is a good work out for you and your pooch.  Lots of dogs off their leashes but that is against the park rules.

2) Griffith park in Los Feliz - LA's largest park.  Dozens of places to take your dog for a walk here.  Lots of parking too. You and your dog can stroll along the golf course or explore the old zoo and bear caves.  The drive up  to the park takes you past some great examples of Los Feliz real estate,  Many beautiful homes line Vermont avenue all the way up to the park entrance.

3) Silver lake dog park - A large dog park  with a cool location adjacent the Silver Lake reservoir.  It is  two sections - one for real small dogs and a much larger space for all the other dogs.  Always lots of dogs for your dogs to meet there.   Not much grass though so expect your dog to come home dirty.  Parking is not great either, and you usually have to cross busy Silver Lake blvd with your dogs - not good.  But it is a large wide open space with many other dogs and nice dog owners to mingle with, so a good choice.

4) Lake Hollywood dog park -  A huge grassy space under the Hollywood sign and not far from Lake Hollywood.  No fences around the space though so you have to be careful your dogs don’t run into the street like mine did.  Not very crowded usually.  Expect to encounter lots of tourists up there taking pictures of the Hollywood sign.  Parking is usually plentiful

5 ) Echo Park Lake - Echo park's park has just undergone a $45 million dollar renovation.  New walk ways have been installed and all of the landscaping has been upgraded.  The lily have returned as well.  All in all a great take to take the dogs for a walk along the scenic reservoir.  A new café is set to open soon as a place to stop and have a snack before you and the dog return home
